Raytheon has developed a new special long-range mission variant, the King Air 350ER. The Royal Australian Air Force rents seven King Air 350i aircraft for navigator training and the Australian Army rents three aircraft for command and control, communication support, and supervision. This aircraft is equipped with a surveillance and communication system. The King Air 350i entered service with the Japanese Self-Defense Forces in 1999 carrying the designation of JGSDF LR-2.
